Iowa commercial vehicle troopers put the brakes on a passenger vehicle driver’s dangerous effort to push another vehicle on a busy interstate at a slow speed.
On September 28, 2026, Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit (CMVU) shared a social media post highlighting an individual’s questionable attempt to transport a vehicle across the Iowa/Nebraska border.
The incident took place September 27 on I-80.

“Yesterday, our Trooper responded to a vehicle on I-80 that was attempting to push another vehicle to Nebraska, while traveling at just 31 m.p.h.,” ISP said.

While the ISP CMVU typically focuses on commercial truck inspections, troopers also respond to traffic complaints.
ISP’s post generated hundreds of comments from users alarmed by the dangerous setup or begrudgingly impressed by the tow attempt.
“I’m a big advocate that anything “in tow” needs to go through a scale for a cmv inspection. Many say lots of these truckers are bad.. which.. you can say what you want- but the folks without CDLs are doing whatever they want on the interstate and rarely get an inspection. Rather terrifying tbh,” said one user.
“Give em some credit! They were just trying to make do, and they really put some thought into that push pad. Gotta love ingenuity,” another person pointed out.
“So you’re saying if they were at the 40 minimum they would have been OK? Asking for a friend of course…” another person joked.
“The “I’m to broke to hire a tow truck” starter pack,” another commenter quipped.
CDLLife reached out to ISP for more information on citations issued during this traffic stop.
