A trucker died after being struck by a piece of a pickup truck’s fender—to which a mudflap was attached—in upstate New York earlier this week.
The accident occurred on Monday, August 17, shortly after 10:00 p.m., on eastbound Interstate 90 near Hanover, New York.
According to the Niagara-Gazette, a 2019 Dodge Ram was towing a 32-foot trailer on I-90 westbound when a fender and a skirt broke loose from the trailer. The parts then flew across the median and crashed through the windshield of a 2020 Volvo truck.
Petros D. Liben, a 54-year-old truck driver, was struck by the fender and skirt and veered off the interstate, crashing into a guardrail. Liben suffered injuries to his face and abdomen and was transported by helicopter to a hospital, where he later died.
The New York State Police are still actively investigating the incident, and no further information has been provided.
