A trucker says he made two extra stops at gas stations along his route to triple-check his ticket after discovering he had won $50,000 in the lottery.
Truck driver Jason Nixon says that last month he was driving his usual route in Severna Park, Maryland, when he stopped at a 7-Eleven with a $10 bill.
“I felt like buying a lottery ticket and had a $10 bill set aside,” Nixon explained, adding that the first ticket he saw was the $10 “FAST PLAY Big Win” game. “So that’s the one I chose.”
Nixon quickly scratched the ticket and discovered he had won $50,000. “It was crazy. I checked it over and over, and every time it matched $50,000,” he said.
Nixon says he was so stunned that he could hardly believe it, and he made sure to check the ticket two or three times while on his way to make a delivery.
“I stopped at two other lottery stores on the way to my next stop to scan the ticket again.”
When the ticket came up as a winner every time, “I looked in the rearview mirror. Despite that doubt in the back of my mind, I couldn’t stop smiling,” Nixon told the Maryland Lottery.
