Seafood Shipment Destroyed After Florida Refuses Entry and Returns Frozen

    Published:

Florida agricultural inspectors destroyed a load of seafood after stopping it twice in two days due to safety concerns.

According to an October 1 statement from the Florida Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE), a box truck was stopped by agricultural inspection officers at Station 16B on I-95 in Yulee.

The truck was loaded with 16,960 pounds of seafood to be delivered to Florida restaurants.

Inspectors discovered that the seafood was outside of the acceptable temperature range, so “officers denied the shipment entry into Florida and directed it back out of state.”

The next day, inspectors spotted the same load of seafood, now frozen and presented as a different shipment.

After recognizing the shipment, inspectors contacted the Division of Food Safety, and issued a food safety violation.

The load of seafood was escorted to a landfill to be destroyed to prevent it from reaching restaurants or consumers.

“The officers’ sharp attention to detail kept unsafe seafood off restaurant tables and helped protect Florida’s food supply and public health,” Florida OALE said.
