The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded Monday to the scene of an overturned semi-truck north of Cool.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. on August 10, the CHP’s Placerville Division reported that SR-49 was closed in both directions between Cool and Auburn, north of the Teichert Quarry, due to a semi-truck accident.

No injuries were reported.
A tow truck was needed to help remove the overturned truck.

Authorities were able to fully reopen SR-49.
According to the CHP, trucks are not permitted on SR-49 between I-80 and US-50 unless the vehicle has an overall length of less than 65 feet and the distance between the coupling pin and the rear axle is less than 40 feet.
“SR-49 is not designed for longer tractor-trailer combinations to travel on it. This poses a safety risk to other drivers, as trucks cannot travel safely on the roadway without crossing the center lines,” the CHP previously stated.
