The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) responded Thursday to the scene of an accident involving a tractor-trailer carrying a shipment of live sea lions.
The MSHP responded to the accident scene, which was reported shortly after 3:00 p.m. on August 13, on westbound I-70 at mile marker 133 in Boone County.
Officers reported that a 2015 Peterbilt, driven by a 59-year-old Ohio resident and transporting three sea lions, “veered off the left side of the roadway for a reason yet to be determined and struck a concrete barrier.”
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported that there were four people in the truck at the time of the accident. One of the occupants was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.
The sea lions showed no apparent injuries but were taken to the University of Missouri (MU) Veterinary Health Center for examination.
Officers said the sea lions have resumed their journey to Sedalia to perform at the Missouri State Fair.
