Hazmat Response Deployed to Odorous Semi Truck on I-35 Feeder Road

    Published:

Hazmat teams responded to a semi-truck stopped on an access road to Interstate 35 after receiving reports of an unbearable odor coming from the trailer.

The truck and the odor were reported around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, on the I-35 access road near the Cassin Road exit in San Antonio, Texas. Police and hazardous materials teams responded to the scene.

According to News4SanAntonio, residents in the area described the odor as unbearable and unpleasant. By 12:30 p.m., police had already left the scene, but a private company specializing in hazardous materials remained to handle the semi-truck and its cargo.

Apparently, the truck was transporting beef when the refrigerated trailer experienced cooling problems. It is unclear when the truck was first abandoned on the shoulder, but the triple-digit temperatures recorded in the region this week contributed to the smell of rotting meat.

It is unknown whether the driver has been located or what exactly caused the trailer to be abandoned, stinking up the shoulder. No further information has been provided.
