A small trucking company in Wisconsin is closing its business, taking away jobs from as many as 80 truck drivers.
Sparhawk Trucking and Sparhawk Truck and Trailer of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, started their initial shut down process with an equipment liquidation, and the firing of seven office and 13 shop employees on Tuesday, September 8th. The final wave of job layoffs are expected to happen in November.
According to the notice, the company says it owes $10.1 million to WoodTrust Bank. The company filed for bankruptcy in March, but was unable to find a buyer for the business. Employees were notified of the bankruptcy filing in June.
A total of 74 employees will be laid off. These employees include 42 truck drivers, 16 total shop employees, and 16 total office employees. Out of an “abundance of caution,” the company also gave notice to its 38 owner operator drivers. The firings are expected to be permanent.
