Indiana State Police (ISP) conducted a commercial vehicle enforcement operation in interstate work zone in an effort to reduce crashes.
ISP released results from a recent enforcement initiative called “Operation Space Cadet” conducted by the Pendleton District on a portion of I-70 in Henry and Wayne counties.
The I-70 enforcement focused on commercial motor vehicles, “specifically addressing unsafe following distances among semi-trucks traveling through the construction zone.”

Troopers said that the operation resulted in a notable decrease in construction zone crashes.
“Before the enforcement effort, the area averaged about eight crashes per week, three with injuries, causing major closures within the zone. During the operation, crashes dropped to three total, with zero personal-injury crashes,” ISP said. “The results demonstrate the potential impact targeted traffic enforcement and voluntary compliance have on roadway safety.”
