Brake violations targeted as Iowa troopers launch CVSA inspection blitz

    Published:

Iowa troopers are urging truck drivers not to put off repairs after detecting several brake-related violations during recent inspections.

With the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) “Brake Safety Week” campaign scheduled for August 23–29, 2026, it’s time for truck drivers to focus on maintenance and repairs to prepare for a potential inspection.

In light of the upcoming intensive brake inspection campaign, the ISP’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit has shared a summary of equipment-related violations—including damaged brake hoses—detected during recent inspections.

“Damaged brake hoses can pose a serious safety risk. When damage is detected, always make sure the repair is done properly,” the officers warned.

Take a look below at some of the equipment issues detected by the ISP’s commercial vehicle inspectors.
