Thousands of commercial vehicles were inspected as part of a special human trafficking prevention operation associated with the World Cup soccer tournament this summer.
On September 15, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) released results from a special human trafficking initiative held in 10 states and three Canadian provinces from June 1 through June 5, 2026.
“The goal of the special initiative was to increase awareness of human trafficking risks associated with large-scale international events, such as the football/soccer competition, and educate commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers and the public about the warning signs of human trafficking and how to report suspected activity,” the CVSA said.
As part of the effort, 4,340 Level I, II and III Inspections were conducted on commercial vehicles. The CVSA said that inspectors “reported 237 commercial motor vehicles with passengers, 244 authorized passengers and three unauthorized passengers.”
While the human trafficking event was held as an awareness and educational initiative, the CVSA pointed out that “roadside inspections present an opportunity for enforcement personnel to potentially identify human trafficking situations. Therefore, commercial motor vehicle inspections were also a part of this initiative.”
Also as part of the initiative, officials distributed 2,851 wallet cards, 767 window decals, 704 postcards, and 162 posters to raise awareness about human trafficking.
