The Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) has announced a toll increase for passenger car and commercial vehicle drivers that will take effect in just a couple of weeks.
Effective September 1, 2026, the KTA will increase tolls by 3% for passenger vehicles (1 to 4 axles) and by 4% for commercial vehicles (5 or more axles).
The current toll rate for a 5-axle truck traveling the entire length of the Kansas toll highway is $32.69 for K-Tag users and $65.38 for license plate customers. The current per-mile rate for a 5-axle truck is $0.138 for K-Tag users and $0.276 for customers with license plate registration.
This is the first toll increase on the Kansas Turnpike since 2022.
Officials say the toll increase will help fund a nearly $500 million project to improve the 236-mile toll highway system.
Planned improvements include:
- Modernization and maintenance of road infrastructure
- Expanding capacity on high-traffic corridors
- Improving network connections and connectivity
- Improving user facilities and service areas
- Advancing technology and operational systems
- Promoting workforce readiness and organizational effectiveness
“For seven decades, Kansans have relied on the toll highway for reliable transportation,” said Steve Hewitt, CEO of the Kansas Toll Highway Authority. “Our responsibility is to preserve what works, modernize where necessary, and prepare the system for future demands. This investment plan allows us to continue providing the safe and reliable experience customers expect, while preparing the toll highway for the next generation of travelers.”
