An escort vehicle driver survived after rear-ending the oversized load they were escorting in Monroe Township, Illinois, on Monday.
At 1:30 p.m. on October 5, the Monroe Township Fire and Ambulance Protection District responded to I-39 at mile marker 112 for a reported crash near a construction zone
When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered that the crash was caused when a “pilot vehicle struck the oversize load it was escorting.”

The pilot vehicle driver declined transport to a hospital.

Firefighters asked drivers to use extra caution in the area due to an uptick in rear-end crashes near the construction zone:
“We have responded to a string of rear-end crashes in this area. Please pay attention and slow down BEFORE reaching the construction zone. Traffic can back up well before construction begins. Keep your eyes on the road, leave extra following distance, and be prepared to stop. Help keep fellow drivers, construction workers, and emergency responders safe.“
