The Louisiana State Police (LSP) conducted an aerial operation to enforce against truck drivers traveling in the restricted left lane of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
On August 13, 2026, the LSP conducted a left-lane enforcement operation targeting commercial vehicles on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge on I-10, in St. Martin and Iberville parishes.
The operation was carried out in response to complaints from residents about trucks driving in the left lane in violation of the law.
Video shared by officers shows how both aerial and ground patrol units were deployed as part of the left-lane enforcement operation.
The LSP conducted 26 inspections of commercial vehicles and issued 26 citations for failing to comply with traffic signs requiring commercial vehicles to drive in the right lane.
In addition, LSP officers detected four other safety violations.
One truck driver was taken off the road.
The LSP plans to continue “proactive enforcement measures to improve safety and maintain traffic flow along the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.”
For years, trucks have been prohibited from driving in the left lane of the 18-mile-long Atchafalaya Basin Bridge for safety reasons.
