Traffic officers specializing in commercial vehicle enforcement detected multiple violations after a truck crashed into a bridge in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
According to a September 11 press release from the Scranton Police Department (SPD), officers responded to the intersection of Luzerne Street and Railroad Avenue after receiving a report that a semi-truck had struck a bridge and fled the scene.
The truck was located in the 500 block of North Main Avenue and was subsequently stopped.
“The subsequent investigation revealed multiple violations. Police determined that the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, that the tractor did not have a valid license plate, and that the trailer had not been inspected since 2020,” the SPD stated.
In addition to traffic and vehicle code violations, the truck driver was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“This incident highlights the importance of our properly trained and certified commercial motor vehicle enforcement officers keeping unsafe commercial vehicles off Scranton’s roads. The Department remains committed to proactive enforcement and has a zero-tolerance policy toward commercial vehicles operating in unsafe conditions,” stated the SPD.
