An Ohio man could face years in prison after admitting to shooting a gun at a moving semi truck on an interstate in Zanesville earlier this year.
Robert Knight, 72, pleaded guilty to charges of Improperly Discharging a Firearm At or Into a Habitation or School Safety Zone with a firearm specification and Obstructing Official Business, according to a September 23 release from the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO).
The charges were issued in connection with an interstate shooting that took place on March 22, 2026.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded after a semi truck driver reported that the driver of a blue Mustang opened fire on his vehicle while traveling on I-70.
Officials said that the driver’s dash cam captured the events leading to the shooting.
“The video showed the Mustang passing the semi in the right lane before slowing down and drifting across the hashed lines separating the lanes of travel. The Mustang continued slowing until the two vehicles were traveling next to each other. The semi then suddenly swerved. The truck driver reported that he swerved because the driver of the Mustang had fired at him,” the MCPO said.
Police located a bullet hole in the right side of the truck.
Investigators used a Flock license-plate-reader search, information from the truck driver’s dash cam video, and the truck driver’s description of the shooter to identify the Knight as the suspect.
A spent shell casing was located inside the Mustang by police.
A search warrant for Knight’s residence. Officers located 18 firearms and ammunition inside the residence.
“When officers went to Knight’s residence, Knight refused commands, became increasingly angry and aggressive, and would not remain in one place. His conduct resulted in the Zanesville Special Response Team using non-lethal measures to take him into custody. Knight was ultimately taken into custody without further incident,” the MCPO said.
Knight faces between seven and 14 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date.
