Court proceedings for the truck driver who admitted to intentionally driving through the front of a grocery store have been delayed due to an ongoing mental evaluation.
34-year-old truck driver Kristofer Scruggs drove into the Aldi grocery store he was supposed to be delivering to in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, September 17th. He can be seen on surveillance video accelerating as he turned into the parking lot of the store from the road. When police arrived, he told them that the crash was not an accident, and that he had meant to drive into the store.
Scruggs was not under the influence at the time of the incident, and told police that he had not intended to hurt himself or others by causing the crash.
According to WSMV, Scruggs was scheduled to appear before a judge in Nashville on Monday, September 21st, but the appearance was delayed at the last minute due to an ongoing mental evaluation.
Court documents show that the evaluation may even continue into the rescheduled court appearance of Thursday, September 24th. Police are not expected to be called to testify during Thursday’s court proceedings.
The motive for the crash is still unclear. Police say Scruggs caused more than $250,000 in damage – enough for a felony vandalism charge.
