Arizona troopers put the brakes on an unlicensed truck driver and a commercial vehicle with severe tire trouble.
On September 18, 2026, a trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit performed a traffic stop on a commercial vehicle traveling on AZ-202 near McClintock Drive in the Chandler area.
The commercial vehicle had a blown tire, which was throwing up “a large number of sparks, and the driver was unaware.”
An inspection revealed that “several tires in horrifically unsafe conditions.”

According to AZDPS, the truck’s tires were “either bald or worn down to shredded interior components.”
Additionally, the driver of the truck did not have a valid commercial driver’s license.
Both the driver and the truck were placed out-of-service.
Arizona troopers used the incident as a reminder about the importance of tire maintenance.
“Notice to all drivers of any vehicle – CHECK YOUR TIRES. Bald tires can cause blowouts which can lead to more damage and collisions. Make sure your tires have enough tread and help keep yourself – and everyone else on the road – safe!” AZDPS said.
