ISP enforcement project yields 340 violations and 59 out-of-service orders

    Published:

A “high intensity enforcement project” by the Indiana State Police led to 59 total out of service orders for truck drivers and semi trucks.

The blitz occurred between September 22nd and September 24th and was intended to target violent crime and aggressive driving. A total of 62 people were arrested and 989 citations were issued. ISP dubbed the operation ‘BASH,’ after each of the last initials of the four officers killed in officer-involved shootings over the summer.

“Northwest Indiana saw an unprecedented level of collaboration this week,” ISP Superintendent Anthony Scott said. “Troopers from all corners of the state, whether from patrol, specialty units, or investigative divisions, stepped up to assist our Lowell Post’s focus on violent crime reduction and roadway safety. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting the communities we serve.”

The operation yielded 989 total citations; 1,446 warnings; 104 CMV inspections, 340 CMV violations, 29 drivers placed OOS, and 30 trucks placed OOS; 53 crash investigations; 10 pursuits on foot and by vehicle; 84 motorist assists; 62 arrests with 19 drug offenses, 26 OWI charges, and 17 additional offenses; and 15 warrants served.

“The Indiana State Police will continue evaluating enforcement efforts and trends to determine future operations that support safety across the state,” the ISP said.
