Buc-ee’s secures $850,000 copyright victory and settles secondary legal dispute

    Published:

Buc-ee’s has settled a copyright lawsuit against a South Carolina company using their beaver dressed in tactical gear.

South Carolina clothing store, Born United, has been ordered to pay Buc-ee’s $850,000 and ordered to stop selling merchandise with the beaver logo on it. The company has also been instructed to destroy any and all merchandise featuring the beaver, reported NBC.

Born United sells merchandise that “supports patriots,” and was recently selling a shirt featuring what appeared to be a Buc-ee’s beaver in tactical gear.

Buc-ee’s also recently settled a lawsuit against Ohio convenience store Mickey’s. Mickey’s logo features a red hexagon with a smiling cartoon inside, which Buc-ee’s says is too similar to their own logo, reported USA Today.

The two companies have reached an agreement on the “material terms” of the suit, but have not released the details of that agreement to the public.
