New York State Police (NYSP) urged commercial vehicle drivers to pay closer attention after a dump truck with its bed raised overturned after striking overhead power lines.
On August 7, 2026, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) of NYSP Troop K responded to an incident involving a dump truck in LaGrange, New York.
Officers determined that a commercial vehicle had exited a yard with its dump bed raised. Subsequently, the cab guard struck overhead communication lines, “lifting the truck’s front axle off the ground and causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side,” according to the NYSP.

No injuries were reported.
Officers noted that New York law requires commercial vehicles with dump or lift bodies to have a warning light in the cab that activates whenever the body is raised.
“This incident serves as an important reminder for commercial vehicle drivers to remain alert and ensure that the dump bed is fully lowered before moving the vehicle,” stated the NYSP.
