Motorist evades warrant after dashcam exposes false road rage accusation

    Published:

A motorist has failed to turn himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest for a road rage incident he falsely reported as being caused by a truck driver.

Graves County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a car and semi truck collision at about 5 p.m. on Interstate 69 south. Both the motorist and the truck driver called 911 to report the accident.

According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old motorist Matthew Jones told police that a semi truck hauling steel beams had cut him off in traffic, and then intentionally rammed into the back of his car. 44-year-old Amy Jones was a passenger in the car and was transported by ambulance for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

49-year-old truck driver William Cox disputed Jones’ claims when questioned by police. Cox says that Jones started the incident by flashing rude gestures at him while driving, and then pulled in front of his rig and hit the brakes. Cox says that this brake checking maneuver led to the rear end collision.

Officers reviewed the dash cam footage from the semi truck and determined that Jones had falsely reported the cause of the crash, and that he had intentionally slammed on his brakes and caused the accident. Police deemed the incident a result of “road rage.”

Police then issued a warrant for the arrest of Jones on charges of Reckless Driving, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Failure to Wear Seat Belts, and Falsely Reporting an Incident to Law Enforcement. Officers say that Jones is aware of the outstanding warrant, but has failed to turn himself in.

“Road rage is a real thing, that is reported to law enforcement regularly. When experiencing this, we would suggest to think about your actions and the consequences that could follow,” Sheriff Hayden stated.
