Canadian government accuses trucking firm of exploiting foreign workers

    Published:

A Canadian trucking company faces multiple charges for allegedly violating labor laws meant to protect foreign employees.

On September 16, 2026, the province of Saskatchewan announced charges were filed against Escalade Transportation Inc., based in Regina, Saskatchewan, as well as Hafiz Tariq Ayub.

Officials accuse the company and Hafiz Tariq Ayub of three violations each of the The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act taking place between November 2022 and August 2023, including:

    • Producing or distributing false or misleading information
    • Misrepresenting employment opportunities, including misrepresentations respecting position, duties, length of employment, wages and benefits or other terms of employment
    • Taking unfair advantage of a foreign national’s fear or lack of experience or knowledge

According to the most recent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data, Escalade Transportation operates six power units and employs eight drivers.

Escalade Transportation Inc. and Hafiz Tariq Ayub were charged under The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act though it was replaced by the The Immigration Services Act (ISA) in July 2024 because the alleged crimes occurred prior to the implementation of the ISA.
