New Jersey man charged in commercial vehicle lease fraud investigation

    Published:

Pennsylvania police have charged a New Jersey man after he allegedly stopped paying the installments on some leased dump trucks.

The owner of a company that rents commercial and non-commercial vehicles contacted the Lower Burrell Police Department (LBP) to file a complaint against Jeffrey Nichols, 46.

According to an August 3 statement from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office (WCDAO), the company stated that Nichols had rented several vehicles from them in 2021 but stopped paying in July 2025.

The company informed police that it had recovered two of the five vehicles through a vehicle recovery service, but that Nichols was still in possession of two three-axle dump trucks and a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The company also indicated that it had unsuccessfully attempted to contact Nichols by phone, text message, and email.

Police went to Nichols’ registered address, but no one was home and there was an eviction notice on the door.

The Chevrolet pickup truck was recovered from a parking lot by the Reading City Police Department in mid-July after being reported stolen.

Nichols faces two charges—theft of leased property and receiving stolen property—according to the WCDAO.
