The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office recently carried out one of Louisiana’s largest methamphetamine seizures following a traffic stop of a semi-truck.
The incident was reported by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, August 11, on Interstate 12, eastbound near Denham Springs, Louisiana.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, an officer from the LPSO K9 Division conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck and discovered that the driver was a Russian national who was in the country illegally. The driver was identified as Anton Vitalyevich Rakov and was arrested because he was “deportable.”
Officers then searched the tractor-trailer and discovered approximately 790 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside the trailer. The LPSO did not specify exactly how the contraband had been concealed, but photos show authorities using scaffolding to reach the top of the trailer.
Sheriff Ard of the LPSO states that the contraband discovered represents “one of the LARGEST methamphetamine seizures in Livingston Parish (and in Louisiana).”
Rakov is currently in ICE custody. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
