Texas Cops Arrest Unlicensed Drivers Operating Trucks in CMV-Style Activities

    Published:

The Krugerville Police Department (KVPD) took enforcement action against a pair of unlicensed drivers operating trucks with violations on each vehicle.

According to a September 21 statement from KVPD, an officer performed a traffic stop on a truck in Krugerville, Texas, that was “operating just under the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) weight limit but clearly has been participating CMV-types of activities.”

During the traffic stop, the officer located several violations on the vehicle and also learned that the driver was not licensed.

“Not just missing a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)… but completely unlicensed,” police said.

The officer issued citations and had the truck towed. The unlicensed driver called for a ride.

“You really can’t make this stuff up. When the driver’s ride arrived, it turned out to be a matching truck with similar violations—and “yes” another unlicensed driver. The process was repeated and both drivers called for a ride,” police said.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration defines a commercial motor vehicle as any motor vehicle used on a highway in interstate commerce to transport property or passengers when the vehicle:

    • Has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more
    • Is single or combination of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more
    • Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or more than 15 passengers if not receiving compensation for the transportation.
    • Any size vehicle that transports hazardous materials that require federal placarding
